As a supra-local and interdisciplinary overall planning level, the regional planning body is responsible for a huge number of different subject areas at regional level.
All of these areas have marked spatial aspects, ranging from the planning control of further residential and commercial development within the scope of the settlement planning concept, through to transport planning and the preservation and further development of open spaces by the general landscape planning body.
The contents of these topic areas are collated and given a legal basis during the course of the preparation of the Standardised Rhine-Neckar Regional Plan.
In the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, regional planning is extremely implementation-related, which means that regional development is increasingly gaining in significance in addition to the actual regional planning, as is borne out by the activities of a professional regional management body. The intersections between regional planning and regional development are correspondingly pronounced, particularly at project level.
