Regional Planning

Regional planning represents the long-term assurance of the region's basis of existence and its locational attraction. The integral contemplation of the sustained settlement, infrastructure and open space development, as well as consideration between these interests, are a part of the regional plan.

This means that planning as an anticipated future is oriented to a spatial development policy that does justice to all these factors. In doing so, the natural characteristics, population development, as well as economic, infrastructural, social and cultural interests and requirements, are to be taken into consideration.

Regional planning is therefore always to be understood as a cross section-oriented, overall planning concept for an area. It must be aligned with the supra-local, overall regional requirements, take into consideration multiple, frequently competing specialist interests, and be merged into a pooled overall concept for the further development of a region. The objectives of higher-ranking European, federal or state-juridical guidelines are always to be heeded.

In addition to planning, regional development as the responsibility of a professional regional management body comes into effect to an increasingly greater extent.
