DownloadSpatial observation involves the ongoing and systematic reporting on spatial developments and changes with the help of selected indicators. Its main purpose is to demonstrate spatial development and change as vividly as possible in the form of tables or maps. This creates an important analytical basis for spatial planning, as knowledge about past developments is a prerequisite for being able to forecast future change processes. Alongside the continually updated Rhine-Neckar Spatial Observation System, the Rhine-Neckar Regional Association also issues publications as part of its monitoring series which can be downloaded here. The underlying data includes statistical data from the federal state authorities and local authority districts as well as aerial photograph evaluations.
- Population - Previous development, situation and future trends (download as a PDF file, German) Mannheim, 2007. 29 pp, illustrations, maps, photographs, paperback
- Land utilisation - Types of utilisation, development and spatial differences (download as a PDF file, German) Mannheim, 2008. 27 pp, illustrations, maps, photographs, paperback
The Rhine-Neckar Spatial Observation System (RBS) can be used to graphically illustrate spatial changes in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region in various areas such as land utilisation, demography or the employment market. Statistical data is automatically permuted into maps so that changes in values can also be easily grasped in a spatial context.
The most important steps for using the system are summarised in a brief guide to the RBS.
