The nanovalley.eu initiative is organised as a national, cross-border and international body. It has its origin in the Karlsruhe technology region and in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region (MRN), and has been striving to achieve a close intermeshing of institutes of further education and research establishments between both regions since 2009.
One goal being pursued by the initiative is to integrate small and medium-sized companies to a larger extent in the process of transferring knowledge and technology in the nanotechnology sector. Furthermore, the initiative's partners regard themselves as protagonists in an innovative region of international pedigree. Meanwhile, partners from Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate have joined forces to shape and market the region.
Co-operation with partners from France and Switzerland is explicitly planned and is currently being arranged. In the medium term, it is intended to establish a European technology region, nanovalley.eu, which will assume a leading role in global competition for attracting specific technological leaders, specialists, R&D investments and corporate settlements.
