The network partners Gesellschaft für Informatik Rhein-Neckar (Rhine-Neckar Society of Information Science), IT-Forum Rhein-Neckar and the VDE Kurpfalz (Electoral-Palatinate Association of German Electricians) have joined together to form the "Rhine-Neckar IT & Media Network" under the umbrella of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region (MRN). This marked the establishment in 2006 of an innovative branch network in one of the most dynamic sectors of industry. Essentially it pursues two overriding strategic objectives, its main focus being the application and maximised utilisation of information and communication technologies:
- Positioning and profiling of the region in the field IT & Media
- Support for the economy, employment, education, training and technology
