There are more than 17,000 foundations throughout Germany. As the Federal Association of German Foundations emphasises, the activities carried out by public welfare-oriented foundations are becoming increasingly significant in view of the growth in social responsibility. With more than 400 foundations, the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region (MRN) boasts a diverse, vibrant and mutually complementary foundation landscape which possesses more social creative power in its entirety than any single foundation could ever be able to achieve alone.
The objective of the MRN's Foundation Day is to support existing foundations in the MRN in their work, and to provide citizens as well as companies who want to establish a foundation with suitable information.
To make Foundation Day even more effective, the "Create good connections" co-operation exchange was integrated in the programme. This instrument enables participants to establish contacts among one another to stimulate co-operation outside of the foundation. Ensuing co-operations benefit both sides and consequently many beneficiaries of the foundation's work.
The co-operation exchange is run jointly with the "Civil involvement in the MRN" network. It is supported by the Bertelsmann Foundation, which has developed the exchange concept along the lines of the "marketplace method", which originated in the Netherlands.
