The MetropolSolarWette, or Metropolitan Solar Wager, was an effective media and public relations exercise in support of renewable energy, especially of solar energy. Strictly speaking, the heads of the district commissioners of the Bad Dürkheim, Bergstrasse, Germersheim and Neckar-Odenwald administrative districts had a wager to find the "sunniest administrative district" in the metropolitan region. The starting signal was given during the RegioSolar conference, which took place in Mannheim on October 11-13, 2007. The winners of the wager were announced in the run-up to the eighth meeting of the association assembly on 26.09.2008. In the end, the winners were all the local and administrative districts, because the wager succeeded in making the local populations more aware of the theme of solar energy. Furthermore, many young people who mapped the solar installations came into contact with this important topic of the future in a playful manner.
