The "Climate Protection Atlas" (2007) illustrates examples of projects and innovative technologies in the renewable energy sector and shows how energy is being used efficiently in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. All the most significant initiatives and very latest procedures are covered here from the generation of energy by means of bioenergy, solar energy, geothermal energy, water and wind power through to plants for combining heat and power, passive energy homes, environmentally sound traffic concepts, municipal energy saving concepts and the utilisation of waste heat in industry.
The atlas was compiled in co-operation with the Rhine-Neckar Regional Association as part of the "Safeguarding energy supplies" project conducted under the auspices of MVV Energie AG. Over 70 experts drawn from industry, local authorities, universities and associations throughout the region were involved in its development. The association was in charge of the "Municipal programme for reducing CO2" working group and drafted the contribution on municipal energy policy together with the municipal climate protection profiles.
