The MRN Film Commission (MRN FC) is a central point of contact for all film and video makers when it comes to making contacts in the industry. As a regional advisory body, the MRN FC has outstanding networks and locational knowledge at its disposal. It accompanies filmmakers on national and international productions and answers queries about the infrastructure of the regional film scene. Besides consulting, its services also include tracking down charming locations and acquiring the pertinent municipal permits. In recent years, the MRN FC has accompanied several cinema and TV productions in the region such as the films "Vier Minuten", "Parkour", "Cindy liebt mich nicht", "Hinter den Gedanken" und "Carla Luca".
The task of the MRN FC is to make the merits of the MRN as a film location known both nationwide and internationally. It also includes initiating meetings of the film industry and representing the MRN at festivals such as the "Berlinale". In particular, the MRN FC also supports up-and-coming filmmakers in the region, such as the short film series "Der Goldene Hirsch" – "Clip Award" – "B-Seite" or the educational media project "Girls go movie", which is aimed specially at girls and young women.
The MRN FC is a project run by the city of Mannheim and the society "Zukunft Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar" (ZMRN e.V.). It is a decentralised partner of the Baden-Württemberg media and film company (MFG), which also funds it. The MRN FC has been a member of the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) since 2009.
