The craftsman's parking permit for the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region (MRN) facilitates the work practices of craft and trade companies, which are frequently on assignment at different places throughout the region. Whereas previously craftsmen had to apply for a separate municipal special permit to park in public areas, since 2008 they have been able to use a regional craftsman's parking permit that is valid in all the 290 local authority districts in the MRN.
The Technology Region Karlsruhe and the MRN have mutually recognised their respective regional craftsman's parking permits since January 1, 2011. The special feature of this permit is that expanding the area of validity does not make it any more expensive. The craftsman's parking permit is now valid throughout an area covering 7,634 square kilometres from Forbach (Rastatt local district council) in the south to Gross-Rohrheim (Bergstrasse local district council) in the north, as well as from Oberschlettenbach (Südliche Weinstrasse local district council) in the west over to Ravenstein (Neckar-Odenwald local district council) in the east.
Operators and companies based in the MRN and registered with the chamber of trade or the chamber of industry and commerce are entitled to apply for the permit. Applications need to be placed at their local traffic authority. The main conditions for submitting an application are described in the “Regional craftsman's parking permit” leaflet. Further information about the application can also be downloaded from the Regional Administration Portal.
